What’s going on here?

In accounting “footnotes” are the explanatory comments in a company’s financial statements. They’re the detail behind the big picture. My last name is Foote and I’m an accountant. The blog titled itself.

Our goal here is to write the “Footenotes” (me) and “Radnotes” (David) focused around our careers. We want to provide the entertaining details, interesting information, and personal insights behind working in our professions.

We both do pretty radically different things but there are definitely areas of overlap that are exciting to run into.

David Radford
David is an educator. For reasons beyond most people’s comprehensions he enjoys dealing with middle school kids all day long. He loves the opportunity to engage and encourage students while facilitating learning. His focus is on math and science for curriculum, but also has a strong interest in  the pedagogy behind ensuring students’ success.

He’s also coaches marching band. During the summer and fall he  works as a “visual tech” teaching high school students how to walk in lines.

Derek Foote
I prefer to deal with numbers and adults. I’ve dabbled in financial statement prep, tax returns, and audits of various types. In September of 2011 I changed firms and now work exclusively on taxes. More importantly, I work closely with clients to help them be successful. The combination of forms, numbers, and people is what makes the career enjoyable.

I’m involved with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) as the Program Chair for 2012. It’s responsible for growing my interesting in professional leadership that ultimately resulted in the career move. I feel that leadership, client relations, and employee development are directly connected to working in a public and professional career.
